Bride’s story
Rebecca is a neuroscientist currently working on her PhD in biomedical science. She's spent her life on the coasts, going from California to Boston, and now New York. She adopted their first cat in college, and takes full responsibility for the eventual menagerie that will take over their home. When she's not in lab, she enjoys reading, knitting, dancing, baking ridiculous desserts, and messing with Josh. She promises not to toss any rings into Mount Doom if they go to New Zealand. Really.
Groom’s story
Josh is a chemical engineer whose journey has taken him around the world. He spent his early years in California, first in Long Beach and then in San Ramon, before finding himself in Singapore, where he spent five years before graduating high school. He enjoys playing music, video games, history, genre fiction, dancing and messing with Rebecca. He uses this variety of hobbies to stave off any impression that he is not, in fact, a nerd.
How We Met
Rebecca and Josh met at MIT, a world-class institution for crazy science people. After some time, they started dating and basically didn't stop. Upon graduation, they moved to the urban jungle of Westchester County and began cohabitating with two monstrously oversized felines.
This continued for a year or so, at which point they realized that they enjoyed cohabitating with two monstrously oversized felines and figured they might as well do so officially (with tax breaks as a bonus).
Also, they like cooking together.
The Proposal
Notwithstanding Shakespearean cliches about star crossed lovers, Rebecca and Josh discovered that a proposal while stargazing can work out quite well. It helps if you are on a lovely fall vacation in Ithaca and have just had a wonderfully romantic and absurdly delicious dinner. It may have been the food, the wine, or being able to actually see the constellations away from the city lights, but they realized that they wanted to be able to share moments like that for the rest of their lives.
